MYLES, KATHRYN H

[br][br]Kathryn Himes Myles was born April 16, 1918 in Edmond, Oklahoma to Willa and Wayland Himes. She passed away September 26, 2015 in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Edmond High School with the class of 1935 as Valedictorian of her class. She attended Central State Teachers College in Edmond. She was an accomplished pianist and organist of First United Methodist Church in Edmond. She has been playing for churches since 1935. She married Larry Myles on June 6, 1936 and moved to Bunkie, Louisiana where Larry was employed by Amerada Petroleum Corporation. Her children, John and Sandra, were born in Bunkie. They also lived in Casper, Wyoming and Williston, North Dakota until Larry's retirement in 1969. They returned to their beloved state of Oklahoma and settled in Sapulpa where Kathryn was organist at First United Methodist Church in Sapulpa for 21 years and played for weddings and funerals around Sapulpa. She also taught piano lessons for 25 years. In 2003 Kathryn moved to Spokane where she lived with her daughter for the past 12 years. She was organist at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church when she first moved here. Kathryn was a 78 year member of PEO, past president of Chapter G, and joined Chapter GK upon moving to Spokane. She was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Bunkie, Louisiana and was active in Eastern Star in Williston, North Dakota. Kathryn was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing bridge at the Spokane Valley Senior Center, in addition to playing in a foursome with friends. She said playing bridge kept her mind sharp. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Larry, a sister, two brothers, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Myles. She is survived by her son, John Myles of Casper, Wyoming, her daughter, Sandy Hoveskeland of Spokane Valley, grandchildren Kory Buglione and Andrew (great grandson) of Spokane Valley, Melissa (Roger) Huschka of Casper, Wyoming, Jessica Schulz of Lafayette, Colorado, Mendi Jones of Roeland Park, Kansas, Joe (Angela) Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Paulette (Kurt) Newman of Denton, Texas, and 13 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA. The family asks that memorial donations be made in Kathryn's memory to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur St., Spokane, WA 99202. Kathryn will be laid to rest with her husband Larry at the Beggs Cemetery in Beggs, Oklahoma.
