Doug was born to Ray & Naom Barr and Palouse, Washington . Doug was a precocious child once taking apart the family's heirloom clock when he was 5 just to see how it worked. His parents had a hard time keeping Doug in the family's yard and at times he could be found down by the river or at the train station talking to workers.
Doug worked for Bagot Motors in Palouse while in high school and drove truck and combines for the local farmers. Doug came to Spokane when he was 17 and went to school to be an aircraft mechanic at SCC and then went on to work at Bowing in Seattle. Doug was in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and had a total of 6 college degrees two of them from Easter Washington University one in mechanical engineering and one in industrial technology design.
Doug loved fast cars and drag racing and was a member of the Mopar Performance Team and worked as the starter at Spokane Raceway Park for many years. Doug built and owned his own drag racer; fire suite, parachute and all.
Doug work for the City of Spokane first as a seasonal temp at the waste to energy plant and then at City Hall before being hired on permanently taking the job that his wife's Paula's father vacated upon his retirement.
Doug was always busy with one hobby or the other starting with his first computer a Commodore 64, remote controlled airplanes & cars, HO scale trains and guns many of them he carved and built himself and he also loaded all his own bullets. Doug shot nearly every week at Spokane Riffle Club and also shot black power rifles and like to go to rendezvous and dress as a mountain man.
Doug was friendly and had a fun sense of humor and would always help ANY coworker, friend or neighbor any time of the day or night if they were in need. Doug was truly a jack of all trades and could do any type of mechanical or build project that needed to be done.
Doug re-modeled a vintage RV and with his wife Paula, his mother-in-law Mary and their dogs would load up and go out and see the world. When Doug was at the wheel you were never quite sure where you would end up life was always and adventure.
Doug was recently baptized and accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior a day we are truly grateful we were able to witness such a glorious event.
Doug will be greatly miss by his wife Paula, mother-in-law Mary Branting, his brother Jim his wife Jeannie Barr, his sister Virginia and her husband Loren Deerkop and three nephews, Mike, Chris & Fred and his niece Ginny and the many friends, co-workers and neighbors.
