
[br][br]John Allen Hines, a loving father, husband, son, brother, son-in-law, friend and devoted coach passed away August 4, 2014 in Chandler, AZ at the age of 46. John was born, June 4, 1968 in Las Vegas, NV where he was brought into the loving family of Robert and Patricia Hines. John grew up in Las Vegas and graduated from Western High School in 1986. He was an accomplished basketball player and finished his college basketball career at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, ID where his team won the NAIA District Championship. He was also the student body president of LCSC in 1992-1993 and earned his degree in Business. John is known for his generous heart and ability to make everyone laugh.
John married the love of his life, Marci Urquhart of Clarkston, WA in 1992. Together, they have two wonderful sons, Thad and Ryan. Their marriage ended in divorce this past April.
John was employed as a stockbroker at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Bellevue, WA before he transformed his love for basketball into a sports & marketing family company. John and Marci ran their small company in Washington State under the name of Northwest Sports and later changed the name to Idol Sports & Entertainment, Inc when living in Arizona. Idol Sports is known for the annual "Battle in Seattle" featuring Gonzaga University. Another one of John's passions was coaching youth sports and for over two decades he helped young athletes and was always available to mentor or lend a helping hand for a child in need. John especially loved his annual trip to Hoopfest where he and his boys would participate in the tournament in hopes of a championship title.
John is survived by sons, Thaddeus and Ryan Hines, former wife Marci Hines of Gilbert, AZ, father Robert Hines and sister Becky Griffin, Las Vegas, NV. John was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Hines and grandmothers Henrietta Hines and Ruby Ferguson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on August 16, 2014 at the Sun Valley Church on 456 E. Ray Rd, Gilbert, AZ, 85295. According to John's wishes, his body was cremated. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to any of your local Boys & Girls Clubs in memory of John. Or you may choose to someday "pay it forward" as a volunteer coach for a youth sports program in spirit of John's giving heart.
