Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed from this life to eternal peace and joy with God on December 4, 2013 from complications of heart disease. Merlyn was born on November 28, 1931 to Elmer and Mildred Anderberg in Tacoma, Washington, and baptized soon after birth. His faith in The Lord remained strong throughout his life, and in his later years he often spoke about his conviction that God created the world. Merlyn received his B.S. degree from Reed College and subsequently earned M.S. degrees from the University of Oregon and Whitworth University. He spent his career as a committed Biology and Anatomy and Physiology teacher at Salk Jr. High, Ferris High, and Spokane Falls Community College. He was delighted when he had the frequent experience of receiving care from nurses who had been his students. We grieve the loss of our husband and father. He brought strength, security and love to our family. We remember his goofy jokes and puns, fascination with many interests, strong work ethic and support of education. Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gretchen; children Robert (and Tammy) Anderberg; Susan (and John) McComas; Carole (and Steve) Amsbury; David Anderberg; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Gayle Anderberg. The family wishes to thank Doctors Bob Notske and Doug Wysham for their kind and skilled care. Memorial services will be held Monday, December 9th at 2PM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, E 11315 Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or Hospice of Spokane.
