[br][br]Darlene was born and raised in the Watertown South Dakota area. Right after high school she traveled two days by train to Portland Oregon to marry Dale Hurlbert. This was her first time away from Watertown. She and Dale raised 5 children while living in Oregon, Washington, and Montana. While her children were young she served as their Campfire leader and den mother for Cub Scouts. Her artistic side came out in playing piano and organ by ear, painting, sewing, and many crafts. Bingo, reading, puzzles, and card games were among her other favorite activities.
